Honouring Memories, Planting Dreams
Honouring Memories, Planting Dreams is an event to remember all of the Indigenous children lost to the residential school system. The planting of a heart garden is a way to honour these children and to actively participate in reconciliation (First Nations Child & Family Caring Society, n.d.).

A heart garden is created by each participant decorating a heart on a stick to honour the life of a child who attended or was lost to the residential school system. Optionally, seeds may be attached to the bottom of the stick to create a permanent heart garden. The hearts are then stuck into the ground together to form a heart garden to honour all of the Indigenous children who suffered at the hands of the residential school system (First Nations Child & Family Caring Society, 2015).
In future years, the University of Guelph-Humber plans on providing students with the opportunity to participate in the planting of a heart garden. This will show allow students to show commitment to truth and reconciliation for Indigenous people in Canada.
