What is Have a Heart Day?

Have a Heart Day is a reconciliation event to advocate for equal funding and access to services for Indigenous children in the same way funding and services are available to non-Indigenous children. This day unites Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to advocate for the rights of Indigenous children. This event brings attention to how many Indigenous children do not have access to resources when compared to other Canadian children (First Nations Child & Family Caring Society, n.d.).

Have a Heart Day will be commemorated online this year, but we will still honour the spirit of this day and stand up for love and fairness. One way to get involved in Have a Heart Day is to send the Prime Minister of Canada a postcard outlining Calls to Action that are not currently being met. The Canadian government is failing our Indigenous children and sending a letter can help to make these issues heard and hold the government accountable.

Calls to Action

These calls to action impacting Indigenous children and families have not yet been met by the Canadian government (CBC News, 2018).
